These here are renovated, because now they are "new-Berlin" chic and fashionable. But back then, they actually DID give them to normal people, not just party bosses; and the ones who helped construct them in the early 50s, got something like lottery tickets, and if their ticket won, they could move in! Not bad considereing appartments were scarce...
